MC Media Player FAQ
General Questions
Who makes this player?
Dave Owen from www.MediaCollege.com.
Something doesn't work. How do I fix it?
First, see the troubleshooting page. If that doesn't help, post a message in the support forum.
How do I contact you?
If it's a question about the media player please use our forum. Otherwise use this contact form.
What is the current version?
See the development status page.
What file formats are supported?
MC Altair supports Flash FLV and H.264. H.264 files must be in an Mpeg4 container.
MC 720x360 supports FLV, H.264, MP3, SWF, JPG, GIF and PNG.
When will new versions be released?
As time permits. I'm lucky enough to have some time coming up in 2008 and I hope to do a lot of work on the player.
Where can I download the MC Altair SWF file?
It isn't ready for download yet. If you want to use it I recommend running it from our server in the meantime—that way you'll always have the latest version. You can use the code on this page.
Can you customize the player for me?
Sorry, no. I just don't have the time.
Can I contribute code, skins or customizations?
At this stage not, but definitely in the future.

Why is the video screen size 480 x 288 pixels?
The screen needs to work with video clips of different sizes and aspect ratios, e.g. 4x3 and 16x9, as well as videos from PAL and NTSC countries (which have different frame sizes). In addition, many videos in the real world don't actually conform to any standard aspect ratio. For these reasons the screen size is a compromise to accommodate as many different aspect ratios as possible, while still providing even division of pixels for common video sizes.
